The Man In the Moon

The Man In the Moon

When I first saw this painting, it reminded me of the film “Man in the Moon”, if only for the night sky where a man’s face should be. But as I analyzed it, the sycophantic smile on the woman’s face as she stared into empty space, reminded me of the man people (male and female), who unwaveringly worship a relationship with someone entirely of their own making. The person they are with has an entirely different personality than what they presume them to have. In many cases, the lover is not even in real denial, just wholly ignorant of who their partner truly is. They see a glorious night sky and a lustrous full moon where there is just empty space.
