Falling In Love At a Coffee Shop: Landon Pigg

“If I didn’t know you, I’d rather not know. If I couldn’t have you, I’d rather be alone.”

Sometimes, it is possible to love so truly, deeply, and fiercely that the only thing more piercing and deep than the thought of losing that love is the repulsive notion that someone else will ever do for you. As Katy Perry said in “Thinking of You”, “How can I get better once I’ve had the best?”

A great love can seem like the very best love, the love of your life. But when you lose someone you love that much, for whatever reason, perhaps it is best to redirect that love to yourself, and be the very best you. Perhaps that love was the best for who you are now, and someone better awaits for the person that you might one day become.

Just a Kiss: Boyce Avenue ft. Megan Nicole

“I know that if we give this a little time, it will only bring us closer to the love we wanna find.”

“Just a Kiss” by the country powerhouse Lady Antebellum gained huge popularity when it was featured on a commercial for Lipton iced tea this past year and while I have always been a fan of both the trio and the song, I’ve also long been a fan of Boyce Avenue, the world’s most popular independent band.

The band of brothers from Sarasota, Florida got their start on YouTube and, after years of doing covers and collaborating with other YouTube acts, released an album of originals. But their covers, even the few that are not as good or better than the original, are always heartfelt and give a new spin to commercial favourites.

What makes this cover so great is the fact that an alternative pop spin is put on the song and makes it sound even more intimate, if such a thing is possible.

The Beauty of Words: Part XII -Comfort

So often in life, we are in need of comfort, consolation, solace in the words, hands and heart of another human being. We crave this urgently, this knowledge that someone cares, that we are not alone.

Don’t mistake me, I do not and have never deemed all-encompassing platitudes and token phrases as comforting in the least. Comfort comes in when a person cares enough to ask what is troubling you, cares enough to want to alleviate your pain, and (if actions should not suffice or simply aren’t possible) gives you, through speech, hope, courage, strength and renewed will.

This is why, especially when others are hurting, it is always best to choose your words wisely. And with love.

Suicide is Painless: Ania

“Through early morning fog I see

Visions of the things to be….”

Anyone who’s ever watched the television series M.A.S.H. has heard the peculiar theme song, “Suicide is Painless”, a song whose title alone is deemed by many as “offensive”. But this song was never meant to glamourize or promote suicide, only to describe how incredibly cruel the game of life can be. Suicide is a very real part of our culture and rather than pretend it’s not there and risk the implications of denial, “Suicide is Painless” reminds me to reach out, to keep struggling even when things are hard, and to remember that  I am not alone. And this is a pretty awesome cover, too. 🙂
